BREAKABLE CODE BREAKS CODE TO WINNING SILVER GOBLIN STAKES AT REMINGTON PARK
Jockey Harry Hernandez had never ridden Breakable Code in his career, but he pushed all the right buttons to get him to the lead, never looking back to win Friday night’s $50,000 Silver Goblin Stakes at Remington Park over a sloppy track.
“I went back and watched his replays,” said Hernandez. “Looked like he was breaking slow from the gate, but tonight he was perfect. He helped me so much to win.”
First one out of the gate at this 6-1/2-furlong distance proved to be the trick as Breakable Code, a 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by Code West, from the Broken Vow mare Honorable Break, cruised home an easy winner. Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame trainer Joe Offolter conditions this gelding for Remington Park’s leading owner Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, Okla. Hawk also is the breeder. It was the first win in this stakes series for all connections.
“I’ve always liked this colt,” said Offolter. “He is the quickest we have. He took to the racetrack good tonight. He done good.”
Breakable Code’s winning time of 1:16.42 was the fastest win in the Silver Goblin since the track’s all-time winningest horse, Welder (16 wins at Remington Park), put up a time of 1:15.49 in 2020. Welder won this race a record four times. The stakes record time came in 2005 when Zee Oh Six covered the distance in 1:15.00.
Breakable Code had finished fourth in allowance company at Prairie Meadows in Iowa in his last start before shipping to Remington Park for this meet. He had a layoff from June 7 to Aug. 22 prior to beginning his season here. All he has done here is win three and running second twice in five starts.
“We let these horses tell us when they need some time off,” said Hawk. “I think that’s what he was telling us (after Prairie Meadows).”
Breakable Code, at 7-5 odds, made every pole a winning one, setting fractions of :22.12 for the first quarter-mile, :44.89 for the half-mile, 1:09.78 for three-quarters of a mile and finishing in 1:16.42. The winner won by two lengths over C W Prize (2-1), who was another 7-1/2 lengths in front of third-place finisher Lake Bee (the slight betting favorite at 7-5). Rounding out the order of finish was Mister Wayside (11-1) fourth and Euromantic (27-1) fifth.
Breakable Code paid $4.80 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.10 to show. He earned $30,000 for Hawk and improved lifetime to seven starts, four wins with two seconds for total earnings of $119,652.
The Silver Goblin Stakes is named for the millionaire Oklahoma-bred gray who raced from 1993-1999, while compiling a multiple graded stakes winning resume.
Remington Park racing continues Saturday at 6:30pm-Central.
