CABRERA STAYS HOT, WINNING FOUR MORE AT REMINGTON PARK

Jockey David Cabrera posted a riding triple to complete his Remington Park racing week on Saturday, Aug. 16. He started his new week here by racking up four more victories Thursday, Aug. 21.

The riding quadruple makes Cabera the first jockey on this young (six dates) season to reach double-figures in wins. The achievement also catapulted him to the top of the local rider standings with 11 wins. Steward Elliott, the two-time defending jockey champ at Remington Park, and Ramon Vazquez, are in a tie for second behind Cabrera with nine wins.

Cabrera waited until the fourth race to score for the first time on Thursday with Easy As Pie ($5.40 to win) in a maiden-breaking event. He poured on the money with his score in the sixth race on Belle Blaze ($24) as that 4-year-old filly also broke her maiden status.

Just A Coed ($12.80) gave Cabrera a triple in the eighth race, winning in allowance company, just before he made some history to gain the fourth win of the night.

The final race of the night was at the about 7-1/2 furlongs distance over the firm turf course. The distance is “about” as the inside turf rail setting was moved out to 20 feet this week. Sonic Posse left the gate sharply under Cabrera, taking the lead that he would never relinquish. The 5-year-old gelding fended off all challenges in the final quarter-mile to win by three-quarters of a length at 9-2 odds. Spoiler, the defeated 8-5 wagering favorite, made a bid in the final strides but ran out of real estate.

The effort was sharp enough to establish a new turf course record for the about 7-1/2 furlongs as Sonic Posse stopped the timer in 1:29.74. The old mark stood since Sept. 18, 2019 when Gymnastic handled the measure in 1:30.05.

Sonic Posse, an Oklahoma-bred gelding owned and bred by Larry Darter of Ardmore, Okla., remains undefeated over the Remington Park turf course, moving his career mark to three wins in as many attempts. Trained by Francisco Bravo, Sonic Posse is by multiple Grade 1 winner Caleb’s Posse from the Song of the Sword mare Sonic Run. The victory was the fourth over all for Sonic Posse from 16 starts.

Remington Park racing continues Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22-23, with the first race nightly at 6pm-Central.
