DEZIGNER JEANZ PROVES FAVORITISM WELL-DESERVED, WINNING $100,000 REMINGTON PARK JUVENILE STAKES
Dezigner Jeanz was forced to the outside as she broke from the gate, but she quickly righted herself and cruised down the track a winner in the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile Stakes on Saturday.
Jockey Francisco Calderon straightened her out and hit cruise control for the filly that fired like a rocket in the final 100 yards. The 2-year-old daughter of Mr Jess Perry, out of the Corona Cartel mare All N the Jeans, was qualified for the $804,150 Remington Park Futurity finals until the final trial race of the night on April 6. When the first and second horses qualified in the final trial, Dezigner Jeanz was forced to go in the Juvenile Stakes instead. It may have worked out well for the filly as she earned $40,816 for the victory. She would have run for also-ran money in the finals as Dark NME crushed that futurity field.
Trainer John Stinebaugh won the Juvenile for the first time as did owner Pete Scarmardo of Caldwell, Texas. Calderon fit into that category as well. It was his first time in the irons with this filly as he did not ride her in the trials. Scarmardo paid $55,000 for the winner in the 2022 Heritage Place September Yearling sale. She has now raced twice, winning both starts, her trial and this stakes, for total earnings of $49,654, almost earning her sale price back.
Dezigner Jeanz went off as the 6-5 betting favorite and paid $4.60 to win, $4 to place and $3.20 to show. Ernest was one length back at 24-1 odds in second and another longshot, She Looks Political (22-1) ran third, another head back.
Running time for Dezigner Jeanz was :16.836 for the 330 yards on a fast track for a speed index of 89. The Remington Park Juvenile was for eligible Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds.
Dezigner Jeanz was bred in Oklahoma by Bobby Cox.
