GO CATS WINS ALLOWANCE FEATURE UNDER LEADING RIDER RAMON VAZQUEZ, GIVING HIM DOUBLE TO PAD REMINGTON PARK LEAD
It took a battle to the wire, but Go Cats got up for the victory in the featured allowance race under the leading rider at Remington Park, Ramon Vazquez, who doubled up for the night to pad his seemingly uncatchable lead.
Vazquez improved to 47 wins for the meet, 20 more than two-time defending riding champion Stewart Elliott’s 27. If there is any jock you want on your horse, fighting to the finish line, it’s hard to beat Vazquez, who pushed Go Cats to the wire, a neck in front of Cashmeup.
Cashmeup defeated Go Cats last time out at Remington Park on Aug. 22 by a half-length. Vazquez got the call for the rematch from trainer Robertino Diodoro and the Thursday night result was turned in favor of Go Cats.
Go Cats was sent off as the 8-5 betting favorite Thursday and that is what Vazquez can do to the toteboard as well. Go Cats and Cashmeup both went off at 5-1 when Cashmeup got the best of Go Cats on Aug. 22. Despite that win, Cashmeup was 6-1 in the wagering tonight.
Go Cats paid $5.40 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.20 to show. It was actually a three-way battle from the top of the stretch in the one mile-70 yard race for first-level allowance horses. Heavenville (9-5) was the pacesetter in the early going and didn’t give up the ghost until the final 70 yards. He checked in for third, 2-1/4 lengths behind Cashmeup.
Running time for the winner was 1:40.52 and he was right there in stalking position as Heavenville posted early fractions of :23.93 for the first quarter-mile, :47.74 for the half-mile, 1:12.02 for three-quarters of a mile and 1:36.48 for the mile.
Go Cats, a 5-year-old gelding by Gun Runner, out of the Broken Vow mare Best Performance, is owned by Charles Garvey of Nisku, Alberta, Canada and was bred in Kentucky by Three Chimney Farms. Go Cats earned $23,268 from the $39,000 purse and improved his career marks to 27 starts, six wins, one second and three thirds for a bankroll of $133,866.
