JACKMAN’S RIDE SCORE TURF SPRINT IN REMINGTON PARK FEATURE
Turf sprinter Jackman’s Ride scored the five-furlong grass feature on Friday at Remington Park, going to the lead immediately and never facing a serious challenge.
The feature was an allowance-optional $50,000-claiming event with the winner in for the price tag. No one put in a claim.
Owned by Wanda and Steve Dupy of Enid, Okla. and trained by J.R. Caldwell, Adrian Morales sent Jackman’s ride to the front in just a few strides at the start. The 8-year-old gelding opened up by as many as four lengths early in the stretch and had enough in the tank to win by two lengths as Bad Beat Brian began to cut into the margin in the final furlongs.
Jackman’s Ride handled the opening quarter-mile in :22.15, hit the half-mile in :44.89 then crossed the finish in :57.10 on the firm going.
The heavy favorite at 4-5 odds, Jackman’s Ride paid $3.60 to win, $2.10 to place and $2.10 to show. Bad Beat Brian was second, three lengths ahead of General Shipman who rallied from last in the field of five to gain a distant third.
A son of Maclean’s Music from the Lil E. Tee mare Heart Tee, Jackman’s Ride won for the 13th time in 40 career starts to go with eight seconds and five more third-place efforts. Bred in Kentucky by Jim Plemmons, Jackman’s Ride earned $24,600 on Friday to push his lifetime bankroll to $361,633.
Racing continues Saturday, Sept. 6 at Remington Park with the first action at 6pm-Central.
