OFFOLTER REACHES 600TH AT REMINGTON PARK, ELLIOTT RIDES THREE MORE WINNERS
When Mister Omaha broke his maiden in the first race of the night Friday, it gave Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame trainer Joe Offolter his 600th trip to the winner’s circle at Remington Park.
Offolter made it 601 local wins later in the card, winning race five with Buck Lake ($10.80 to win), another horse in his barn that is no longer a maiden.
Overall, in his long career, Offolter has 9,427 starts, winning 1,225 times for earnings of $19,315,971, according to Equibase statistics. He is third all-time in Remington Park wins, behind only Steve Asmussen (1,262) and Donnie Von Hemel (1,087).
Mister Omaha ($3), a 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred colt by Omaha Beach, out of the Into Mischief mare Cosmic Code, was a second-time starter after losing by only a head in his career debut here on Aug. 16. Remington Park’s second all-time winningest jockey Luis Quinonez was aboard for Offolter on this colt.
Mister Omaha gave his owner, Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, Okla., the short-lived lead in the owner’s standings with 10 this meet. Dick Cappellucci didn’t wait long before tying Hawk at the top of those standings with his 10th victory of the season in the third race of the night, sending out Northvale Road for a win.
Elliott Posts Another Hat Trick
Now leading rider Stewart Elliott is just rubbing it in.
Elliott took a commanding lead into Friday night’s card and extended it with a riding triple on the night. After Friday’s races, Elliott has 40 wins at Remington Park while no other jockey has more than 20.
Four-time jockeys’ title-winner David Cabrera and Floyd Wethey, Jr., were tied in second-place with 20 wins apiece. Cabrera had one winner Friday while Wethey was shut out.
Elliott’s three wins came for leading trainer Steve Asmussen, and conditioners Sarah Davidson and Dick Cappellucci.
Elliott’s big night began in the third race when he won aboard Northvale Road ($4.40) for owner-trainer Cappellucci. That bay California-bred gelding was the 6-5 wagering favorite and won by 1-1/2 lengths. Elliott followed that up with victories in races six and seven with Take Charge Babe ($8) for Asmussen and Jewelstown ($4.20) for Davidson, respectively.
Take Charge Babe, a Kentucky-bred 3-year-old filly by Take Charge Indy, out of the Bodemeister mare Bodebabe, won by 1-3/4 lengths for owner Clark Brewster of Tulsa, Okla.
Elliott’s win on Jewelstown by 6-1/4 lengths win in the seventh race came for owner Robert L. Tucker of Hot Springs, Ark.
A couple of stats that prove how dominating Elliott has been through the first 22 race dates of the Remington Park season:
he has had at least one win every racing night except Sept. 5.
he has had at least two wins on 12 separate racing days, posting seven riding triples and gaining riding doubles on five other dates.
