OPENING NIGHT RACES DRAWN FOR REMINGTON PARK THOROUGHBRED SEASON
The 2025 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season will begin on Friday, Aug. 8. This morning, entries for the first program of the scheduled 62-date season were taken, compiling nine races for Opening Night.
A pair of allowance events over the turf course will take place in races five and eight.
A field of 12 will go 7-1/2 furlongs over the turf in race five, a conditional allowance worth $39,000 for 3-year-olds.
A group of five veterans will go in race eight on the turf, sprinting five furlongs. The open allowance for 3-year-olds and older carries a purse of $44,000. Dark Afternoon, winner of the last two Remington Park Turf Sprints (2023 & 2024), drew post-position two. Owned by Black Hawk Stables of Elk City, Okla. and trained by Alex Hartman, Iram Diego will have the mount.
Dark Afternoon finished fifth on June 27 at 5-1/2 furlongs over the Churchill Downs turf in Louisville, Ky. in his most recent attempt. The 5-year-old Oklahoma-bred by Black Bear from the Came Home broodmare Afternoon Liaison, has earned $189,910 overall with 19 starts, six wins with two seconds and two thirds. Dark Afternoon has four of his six career wins at Remington Park.
Jackman’s Ride is the top earner in the field with $328,233 banked. The 8-year-old by Maclean’s Music from the Lil E. Tee mare Heart Tee, has made 38 starts with 12 wins, seven seconds and five thirds. Owned by Wanda and Steve Dupy of Enid, Okla., and trained by J.R. Caldwell, Jackman’s Ride finished fourth in the $125,000 Grand Prairie Turf Sprint at Lone Star Park on June 28. Earlier in the spring he was third in the $100,000 Chamberlain Bridge Stakes, also at Lone Star Park. Regular jockey Rene Diaz will have the call.

A total of 73 horses were entered for the Opening Night races for an average field size of 8.1. Total overnight purses for the first night of the season reached $242,000.
Racing begins at 6pm-Central nightly this season at Remington Park.
