SOUTHERN SEIS PUTS UP FASTEST TIME AMONG QUALIFIERS FOR $159,095 REMINGTON PARK OAKS
Southern Seis had the misfortune of running against Tres Crystals at Remington Park last year in the Oklahoma Futurity, who also went on to win the Heritage Place Futurity, a $1 million race.
In Saturday’s trials for the $159,095 Remington Park Oaks, the 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly didn’t have to dodge the Texas-bred monster Tres Crystals, and it worked to her favor, putting up the fastest time of all qualifiers in the trials restricted to eligible Oklahoma-bred 3-year-old fillies.
Last year, the 3-year-old filly by Tres Seis, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Southern Miss, ran her heart out but finished fifth in the Oklahoma Futurity, beaten only a length by Tres Crystals. Southern Seis finished off the year in July, running second in the $145,000 Heartland Futurity in Indiana by three-quarters of a length before taking a vacation until Saturday night.
Southern Seis came off the layoff for trainer Lucio Espiritu and leading jockey Roman Cruz like a horse with her heart on fire for victory. Southern Seis stopped the timer for 400 yards in :20.027 over a fast track, moving into first place by three-hundredths of a second. It was her third win in four times in trial races. Her record now is seven starts, three victories and one second for a bankroll of $83,254. A total of $36,514 of that has been pocketed in Oklahoma City. Southern Seis is owned by Zareth Juarez of Litchfield, Ill. The swift filly was a $30,000 purchase in 2021’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Southern Seis was sent off at 7-2 odds and won her trial by three-quarters of a length over Double Didget, the 6-5 post-time favorite. Five horses qualified from this heat for the final 10.
The fastest 10 times in the Oaks trials will face off in the finals of the $159,095 Remington Park Oaks on Saturday, April 22, at 400 yards.
