WERA C WINS OKLAHOMA JUVENILE WITH EASE AT REMINGTON PARK
The easiest stakes victory of the night at Remington Park went to Wera C in the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile as the 2-year-old daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 jetted to victory by an increasing 1-1/2 lengths Saturday night.
Trainer Al Watson and Nestor Duran, who have been a solid combination at Remington Park already this spring with invaders from Retama Park near San Antonio. They had Wera C pumped up and ready to fire in the Oklahoma Juvenile and she was never in danger. The filly already had a 1-1/2 length lead in mid-stretch and all Duran had to do was cruise home for the win.
It was a huge night for her sire, Flying Cowboy 123. Horses produced by that stallion won the Oklahoma Juvenile, the Oklahoma Derby and the Oklahoma Futurity.
Wera C was sent off at 3-1 odds, the second choice in the betting on the toteboard and paid $8.40 to win, $4.20 to place and $3 to show. The filly raced the 300 yards in a time of :15.495 for a speed index of 90 over a fast track. Her time was the fastest of the night for the stakes races at the distance.
Wera C finished well ahead of runner-up HF Kiss This Too (5-1), who was a head in front of third-place finisher Right On Tyme (8-1). The winner might have been daylight ahead of this bunch, but the rest of them fought gamely in a blanket finish from second to seventh. After Alstarr (14-1) was a nose back of third in fourth, Hock Your Kisses (2-1 betting favorite) a neck farther back in fifth, Instagram Diva (23-1) a nose behind her in sixth, and another nose back was Corona Streakin Jess (5-1) in eighth. Bye Bye Baby Train broke poorly and finished ninth at 5-1.
Wera C won $20,833 from the purse for owner CH Horse Racing from Mission, Texas, and improved to two starts lifetime with a first and second (in the trials for the Oklahoma Futurity) and earnings of $22,779. This filly was a purchase out of the Texas Quarter Horse Yearling Sale in 2024 for $73,000. She was bred by Ellis H. “Hank” Bird.
Remington Park racing continues Sunday, March 23 with a card that begins at 4pm-Central.
