PALUXY VICTORIOUS FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2023 GOVERNOR’S CUP AT REMINGTON PARK
When Paluxy won the $100,600 Governor’s Cup last year in the opening stakes race of the meet at Remington Park, there was much rejoicing in the barn of trainer Scott Young and from all this horse’s backers.
He was 5-years-old last year when he shocked the racing community with his win in the race at 24-1 odds, jockey Floyd Wethey, Jr., in the irons for owners Blue and Gold Racing. At 6-years-old this year, Paluxy, a Kentucky-bred gelded son of Brody’s Cause, from the Master Command mare Miss Pippa, appeared to have lost a step in his first two starts this year, but he had something to say about that on Friday night.
Just like in last year’s Governor’s Cup, Paluxy came from near the back of the pack and passed all those front-runners in mid-stretch to go on to win a $30,000 claiming race, going seven furlongs on the fast main track in the second race of the evening. He won by a half-length in this race.
Paluxy tried to defend his title in this year’s renewal of the Governor’s Cup, but could do no better than sixth, beaten by 21-3/4 lengths. Paluxy followed that with a fifth place run in an open allowance at one mile on Sept. 4.
All the stars were in alignment Friday night as Paluxy was sent off at 6-1 odds and paid $15.80 to win, $7.60 to place and $3.60 to all the supporters who stayed loyal to him. It was the second time he has won at seven furlongs in only three tries at the distance. He stopped the timer in 1:22.98 over the fast track.
Paluxy has now won eight of 27 attempts, with five seconds and four other efforts in third. He has total earnings of $272,373.
You Get a Win, and You Get a Win…
Friday night at Remington Park was “spread the wealth night” as the nine races were shared generously for the winning horsemen.
All nine races were won by nine different jockeys, nine different trainers, and nine different owners. A rarity this season as nearly every night someone, usually a jockey or trainer, has at least posted two wins on one program.
Saturday evening is the 28th night of the 2024 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season with nine races beginning at 6:30pm-Central. Races one, four, seven and nine or over the turf course. The main track is fast, the turf is firm.
Remington Park has provided more than $363 Million to the State of Oklahoma general education fund since the opening of the casino in 2005.
