RECHARGE RETURNS TO REMINGTON PARK ENTRIES AFTER COMPETING AGAINST POSSIBLE HORSE OF YEAR

Leading trainer Steve Asmussen has entered a filly who recently raced against likely national Horse of the Year – Thorpedo Anna. Recharge was entered in the seventh race on Wednesday, Dec. 4, an open $40,000 allowance race for 3-year-olds-and-older, fillies and mares.

Recharge, a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of the Champion Gun Runner, out of the Tapit mare Remit, races for Winchell Thoroughbreds of Las Vegas. She raced against Thorpedo Anna in the Grade 2, $750,000 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., this spring. She mustered a fifth-place finish to the superstar in the Fantasy, beaten 8-3/4 lengths at 1-1/16th miles on March 30.

Thorpedo Anna, a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Fast Anna, out of the Uncle Mo mare Sataves, has won six-of-seven races this year and run second in the other, winning $3,653,050 along the way. She is 8-for-10 lifetime with a bankroll of $3,843,663. Her biggest win was her victory on Nov. 2 when she won the Grade 1, $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Thorpedo Anna’s only loss this year was when she ran second with the boys in the Grade 1, $1,250,000 Travers Stakes, losing to Fierceness at Saratoga in August.

After Recharge ran fifth to Thorpedo Anna, she raced a distant eighth at Pimlico in Maryland on May 17 in the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. She had a legitimate excuse for that poor performance as she stumbled out of the gate and was then bumped, never really getting into the race.

Recharge actually gets back to the track she has favored the most – Remington Park. She broke her maiden by nine lengths here on Dec. 14 last year under leading rider Stewart Elliott, in her career debut and only start in Oklahoma City. After the debut win, Recharge was sent to Sam Houston Race Park in Texas, winning an allowance for non-winners of two career races by 4-3/4 lengths in January. Her third win was in a one-mile race at Sunland Park in the $250,000 Sunland Park Oaks on Feb. 18 where she won her first stakes try by a neck.

Recharge was entered in a five-horse field on Dec. 4 that includes Geometrique, a winner of her last two starts, closing from dead last in both races to get up for easy wins here. Iram Diego won with Geometrique on Oct. 26 on the grass at one mile for trainer Carlos Padilla. Trainer J.R. Caldwell stepped in and claimed her for $20,000 in that race and won with her the next time out in a first-level one-mile race greensward. This will be Geometrique’s first race on a dirt surface since running one mile at Lone Star Park on its main surface on June 7 this year. She won that race by 3-3/4 lengths. She now races for Farmers Fillies Racing and Steve Dupy of Valley View, Texas.
