LASTCHANCEFORLOVE GAVE HER FLASHY LADY STAKES COMPETITION NO CHANCE TO WIN
Lastchanceforlove faced a short field in the $50,000 Flashy Lady Stakes and she made short work of their chances as she won by a pole, drawing away by 10-1/2 lengths on Sunday at Remington Park on the undercard for the Oklahoma Derby.
Jockey David Cabrera wrapped up on this 5-year-old mare at the sixteenth-pole and took a peek under his arm for any competition coming his way in the stretch. There was none.
Lastchanceforlove won her third race in a row for owners Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch of Dallas, Texas, all of them without breaking a sweat. On June 10, the daughter of Violence (Medaglia D’Oro), out of the Awesome Again mare Awe Hush, won an allowance race at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, by five lengths. She was given a bit of time off and made her fall debut at Remington Park on Sept. 3, winning by 5-1/4 lengths, also under Cabrera under allowance conditions.
Lastchanceforlove ran third in the Flashy Lady Stakes here last year, beaten seven lengths by Cinnabunny. How she has improved. She beat this field of four other fillies or mares by a city block. Another indication of how much better she is now than she was this summer is the fact that she lost by 19 lengths in a race at Lone Star while Optionality ran second by a nose. In this Flashy Lady Stakes on Sunday, she beat Optionality by 18-1/4 lengths. Optionality ran fourth.
Trainer Bret Calhoun has had her wound up and ready to fire her last three times out, winning those three races by a combined 20-3/4 lengths.
She was sent off as the 4-5 wagering favorite by the public on Sunday and she paid $3.60 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.10 to show. Lastchanceforlove earned $30,000 from the purse in the six-furlong sprint over the fast main track and her winning time was 1:10.85. She improved her lifetime record to 15 starts, six wins, one second and two thirds for a bankroll of $166,860.
Cabrera set Lastchanceforlove just off the shadows of the front-running Kaely’s Sister and Optionality down the backstretch and she had totally taken over by the time she hit the stretch, four lengths in front. That lead kept stretching out and stretching out until she was double-digits ahead. The fractions of the race were :22.55 for the first quarter-mile, :46.36 for the half-mile, and ;58.59 for five furlongs.
Those left behind in the wake of Lastchanceforlove were Distorted Flash (12-1) in second, 10-1/2 lengths back; Kaely’s Sister (8-5) in third 14 lengths behind, Optionality (9-2) in fourth, 18-1/4 lengths short of the winner, and Take Charge Woman (20-1) running last 25-3/4 lengths back.
This was the first win in the Flashy Lady Stakes for Lastchanceforlove owners Sanders and Hirsch and for jockey Cabrera. Trainer Calhoun won this race in 2011 with Tin Top Cat.
Lastchanceforlove was bred in Kentucky by White Fox Farm.
