SAMANTHA CODE REMAINS UNDEFEATED, WINNING FEATURED REMINGTON PARK ALLOWANCE THURSDAY
In a featured allowance race that was presented by Senor Buscador, no one could have looked more like Senor Buscador with his patented running style of worst to first than Samantha Code did to stay undefeated Thursday night at Remington Park.
For the second time in two lifetime tries, this 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly dropped back to the back of the pack in the 5-1/2 furlong race and then passed them all like they were standing still to win under jockey Weston Hamilton. It couldn’t have looked more like the 2020 Springboard Mile winner Senor Buscador, who will be inducted into the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame at Remington Park on Friday, Dec. 5.
In her first start on Nov. 13, Samantha Code broke her maiden after dropping back 11 lengths from the lead. It was no problem as Hamilton sat chilly on her until turning for home when she had quickly rallied to withing 1-1/2 lengths of the leader. This daughter of Code West, out of the Van Nistelrooy mare Miss Samantha J., won that race by 1-1/4 lengths. She is a freight train coming down the stretch. It looked like an instant replay on Thursday night.
Samantha Code, trained by Michael Biehler, matched her first performance by letting the field battle in front of her down the backstretch at 5-1/2 furlongs again and neither Hamilton nor the filly seemed in a hurry. When they turned for home, she found that other gear, flying wide past them all for the victory by 2-1/4 lengths.
The winner was sent off at 9-5 odds as the favorite and paid $5.60 to win, $3 to place and $2.60 to show. Samantha Code won the race in a time of 1:06.24. Her time in her first win at this distance was 1:05.52. Both victories came over a fast track. She cut into early fractions set by second-place finisher Outtaherway (3-1) of :22.77 for the first quarter-mile, :46.90 for the half-mile, and :59.68 for five eighths of a mile before taking over at the end.
Samantha Code, bred by her owner Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, Okla., put $23,268 into his pocket and now is two-for-two with a bankroll of $45,738. Outtaherway was another 1-3/4 lengths ahead of third-place runner Den’s Dazzler (5-1). This race was for 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred fillies who had not won two races in their careers. Both of Samantha Code’s two trips to the winner’s circle came against Oklahoma-bred fillies.
Davidson Doubles
Trainer Sarah Davidson posted a training double, sending out the winners of the second and third races on Thursday.
Midnight Lady ($30.60 to win) won the second race, a $10,000-level claiming event at 1 mile-70 yards for owner Henry S. Witt, Jr. of Waco, Texas. He then had the winner in race three when Flash Master ($6.80) won a $20,000-level claiming event at six furlongs.
