VAQUERITA 4 WINS OKLAHOMA JUVENILE AT REMINGTON PARK

A field of eight up-and-coming 2-year-olds made their first stakes attempt Saturday, March 21 at Remington Park in the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile. The 300-yard race was for those who competed in trials for the Oklahoma Futurity on March 6 & 7 but did not make the lucrative final.

Vaquerita 4, the 2-1 wagering favorite, overcame some contact at the start to gain victory under jockey Nestor Duran for owner Air Force, LLC of Mission, Texas and trainer Leonardo Alcala. The filly made the front shortly after getting underway and hit the finish three-quarters of a length better than In D Mand (10-1 odds). Dulce Vale (3-1) was third, 1-1/4 lengths after the winner.

The score was the first from two attempts for Vaquerita 4 who was second in her trial for the Oklahoma Futurity, not qualifying for the main event. Her time in the juvenile was :15.544 over the fast track, gaining a speed index of 87.

A daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 from the FDD Dynasty mare Miss Southern DD, Vaquerita 4 was bred in Oklahoma by Sam Green. She picked up $20,833 for her first career victory, pushing her young bankroll to $22,758.

The Oklahoma Juvenile win was the second in a row for Duran, who rode Wera C to victory last year. It was the first win in the Juvenile for Air Force and for Alcala.

The remaining order of finish in the Oklahoma Juvenile was Lethal Monday (9-1) fourth, Paulinas Knockout (7-2) fifth, Ivorys Version (5-1) sixth, Cheyenne Stone (16-1) seventh and Leaf On The Wind (24-1) eighth. Pancho Bigotes and Coronas First Cowboy were scratched from the Juvenile.
