CABRERA AND BRAVO EARN LIP CHIP AWARDS

Jockey David Cabrera and trainer Francisco Bravo will be honored Friday during the Remington Park races as the Lip Chip Jockey and Trainer of the Week.

Cabrera won seven of his 13 races in just two nights of racing during the third week of the Remington Park season. He had a riding triple on Thursday, Aug. 21 and then posted a four-win night on Friday, Aug. 22. The effort gained Cabrera the Lip Chip jockey honor for the second consecutive week.

Bravo won only two races last week, with both winners establishing a new turf course record for the about 7-1/2 furlong distance. On Aug. 21, Sonic Posse, ridden by Cabrera, set a new mark by stopping the timer in 1:29.74. The old record stood since Sept. 18, 2019 when Gymnastic handled the measure in 1:30.05.

Then Saturday, Aug. 23, the Bravo charge Excaping the Blues bettered the about 7-1/2 furlongs course record, less than 48 hours after his stablemate, Sonic Posse, set it. Excaping the Blues took over ownership of the mark, crossing the finish in 1:29.70.

This will be the first Lip Chip trainer award for Bravo. He and Cabrera will receive their vests from Lip Chip after race five on Friday evening.

The first stakes races of the season take place Friday night with the Oklahoma Stallion Handicap for fillies and the Oklahoma Stallion Handicap for colts and geldings.

Remington Park racing continues Friday and Saturday, Aug. 29 & 30 with the first race nightly at 6pm-Central.
